Wisynco says it is encouraged by the success of its recycling initiative at the recently held Jamaica Manufacturers’ Association Jamaica Expo, which saw approximately 8,000 bottles collected during the four-day event in Kingston.
With over 100 booths exhibiting locally made and distributed products and over 12,700 plastic bottle beverage consumed – many patrons and exhibitors deemed this year as being the best staging of the expo to date.
Capitalizing on this increase in manufacturing locally and the need to dispose products and by-products in a manner that does not contribute to harming the environment, Wisynco through their Corporate Social Responsibility arm ECO saw the event as an opportunity to promote responsible disposal of plastics by offering recycling bins.
“Companies at the EXPO produce millions of plastic products. This initiative by ECO & JMA highlights that brand Jamaica is not just about putting more local items on the shelves and the homes of consumers but is also about being aware of how proper disposal protects our environment for years to come,” shared Francois Chalifour, Director of Marketing & Product Development, Wisynco Group Limited.
Environment Communication Officer at Wisynco Shelly-Ann Dunkley said the efforts of Wisynco and Recycling Partners of Jamaica to encourage and educate the public about recycling is well received.
“This being our first partnership with an event of this magnitude we are very happy persons actively participated and recycled using the bins provided,” she said.
Wisynco ECO, while elated at the success of the partnership, is looking towards the future as they prepare to launch their Recycle Me Corporate Challenge. The corporate challenge, which begins in May will foster friendly competition between five companies, encourage responsible disposal of plastics and will also incorporate activations which will lead to an increase in the awareness of recycling in Jamaica.
