Walmart To Start Charging For Plastic Bags

The Mississauga, Ontario-based company says that in other countries, the introduction of a small fee has helped Walmart to cut down on the number of plastic bags used by over 50 per cent.

A Walmart spokesperson says the revenue from the bags will be used to cover the cost of bags customers purchase.

“Partial proceeds from the bag sales, combined with savings by not offering free single-use bags will be used to support recycling initiatives across Canada, in particular recycling  of plastic film.”

Walmart Canada has 397 stores nationwide, including seven in Winnipeg.
