German thermplastics supplier Simona AG has developed a new Simona Simolife line tailored for orthopaedics technology. Its group of semi-finished parts featuring PE, PP and PETG now includes sheets engineered from ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA).
Simona says its Simolife EVA is designed specifically for the manufacture of inner sheaths used in arm and leg prosthetics. Two product types are available: EVA flex and EVA superflex. The extruded sheets, available in a natural and skin-tone color, are supplied in the formats 400 x 400mm and 2,000 x 1,000mm, with thicknesses ranging from 3-15mm.
The company adds that customized sizes and sheets with antibacterial properties are available on request.
According to Simona, the new Simolife EVA sheets offer good hot-forming properties. Displaying small material shrinkage during cool down, they also have high dimensional stability with uniform wall thickness distribution, which ensures superior adhesive properties and soft-touch comfort. In addition, they are biocompatible in accordance with DIN EN ISO 10993-5/-10 with resistance to sweat, cosmetics, skin creams and disinfectants.
