Cirplus, a European platform for procuring recycled plastics, is looking to take advantage of the growing demand for recycled plastics in India and the broader Asian markets.

The company today announced that it was commencing operations in India with the launch of Cirplus India Pvt. Ltd. The new subsidiary, headquartered in Mumbai, will leverage the combined expertise and resources of Cirplus Global and a high-profile team of local material & supply chain experts to promote the availability and quality of recycled plastics for regional and global use.

Among those staffing the new entity is Ramesh Parasuraman. The industry veteran, who has a total of 30 years of experience in the plastics industry under his belt, has been appointed managing director for Cirplus India Pvt. Ltd. Parasuraman currently serves as founder and managing director of Allied Solutions India, a technical service company catering to the needs of the plastic processing industry in India and neighbouring countries. He is also President of the Society of Plastics Engineers India.

Cirplus India will provide a comprehensive range of services, including supplier matching, material aggregation and qualification, logistics, and quality control to help plastic processors access high-quality recycled plastics at scale in reliable quantities. The company will bring its proven expertise in standardising recyclates (being the initiator of the world’s first standards on high-quality recycling and digitisation, DIN SPEC 91446/EN 18065) and creating the digital infrastructure necessary to manage even more complex material streams, introducing Digital Product Passports that comply with the most recent European legislation.

“I am thrilled to partner with Cirplus to bring its proven model and expertise for digitally enabled sourcing of post-consumer and post-industrial recycled plastics to the Indian and Asian markets,” said Parasuraman. “By strengthening our presence in Asia and India we offer brand owners and converters around the world a comprehensive, convenient and cost-efficient way of meeting their sourcing targets for recycled plastics – a key objective in light of tightening regional and local legislation mandating the obligatory use of recycled content in packaging, automotives and beyond.”

Cirplus India will provide tailored solutions to support local businesses in transitioning to meet regulatory requirements and reach their sustainability goals. It will initiate educational programs, workshops and campaigns to promote sustainable practices amongst businesses and consumers, while fostering collaborations with local governments, NGOs, and industry stakeholders. Additionally, it will partner with key players in the industry to develop cutting-edge technologies and solutions that address challenges specific to the region.

Christian Schiller, founder & CEO of Cirplus noted the company is ‘excited to create synergies between our Asian and European operations in order to transform the landscape of plastics recycling at global scale’.

“This new enterprise will not only address one of the most pressing environmental challenges, but also create significant opportunities for businesses and communities across India and Asia,” he said.
