A new method of producing litter and recycling bins from recycled polymer, developed by Leafield Environmental, is becoming a hit with corporate organisations and education establishments alike, wishing to demonstrate their green credentials in line with Corporate Social Responsibilities.

Manufactured by Leafield Environmental, these Smart-E™ bins are rotationally moulded from 90% recycled chips of MDPE and the result is a unique mottled finish that emphasises the recycled nature of the product. Bins manufactured from recycled polymer have been available for many years but invariably the choice of colour has been black, black or black. In contrast, the Smart-E bin is both colourful and attractive and highlights the fact that it is made of recycled material.

The Smart-E process utilises the polymer waste stream generated in Leafield’s manufacturing process and bypasses several traditional recycling processes associated with ‘repolymerising’ plastic waste such as recompounding, milling, transport etc., making it more carbon friendly The material is colour segregated before being chipped into small pellets that form the bulk of the rotational mouding charge. In this way the colour hue of the finished bin can be modified but each bin has its own unique appearance. (There is even a patriotic red, white and blue variant.) A range of Smart-E bins is available for both outside litter collection and internal recycling.
