The Ministry of Environmental Protection of China has recently issued the “Regulations on plastics waste recycling to prevent pollution”, which will be implemented from October 1 onwards. According to the regulation, processing of plastics waste in residential area will be prohibited. The authority will also ban plastics waste in all food-contact plastic bags.

From October 1, all processing of plastic waste will need to comply with the “Standards of pollution control in plastic waste recycling” to prevent secondary pollutions. Burning plastic waste and other dumps such as screener in outdoor area will be banned.

Processors without hazardous waste operating license will no longer involve in any recycling activities, including collection of chemicals, plastic waste contaminated by pesticides, disposable medical products, etc. In addition, starting from January 1, 2013, companies who failed the test for environmental protection will not be allowed to import plastic waste.
