LyondellBasell was seeking to end its exclusive polypropylene marketing deal with ConocoPhillips, where LyondellBasell is the sole marketer of ConocoPhillips’ Bayway, New Jersey, produced polypropylene, according to a letter LyondellBasell sent to its customers obtained by Platts.
LyondellBasell filed a motion in bankruptcy court indicating this intention, the letter explained. Calls to the company were not returned by press time. The letter said LyondellBasell will seek to end the agreement by December 31, 2009. In lieu of marketing ConocoPhillips’ PP, LyondellBasell aims to “where possible” produce the same grades of polypropylene from its plants in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Bayport, Texas
