Kraiburg TPE highlights THERMOLAST V compounds at VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering conference

At VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering 2016 conference, Kraiburg TPE will introduce its THERMOLAST V portfolio which has recently started full-scale production.

As introduced, this new thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) series features hardness ranges from Shore A 50-80 and are suitable for under-the-hood applications that may be exposed to high temperatures, for example seals for timing belt covers and cable grommets.

“Polyamide is an important and critical construction material, which is why we have expanded and improved our portfolio to include heat-resistant TPEs with adhesion to polyamide,” Dr. Martin Geissinger, Product Manager EMEA at Kraiburg TPE explained.

With an ideal configuration of the processing parameters in the two-component injection molding process, the combination of THERMOLAST V and polyamide (PA) can achieve good adhesion of more than 5N/mm.

In addition to good mechanical stability and high heat resistance, Kraiburg noted that the TPE achieves superior compression set even under prolonged exposure to high temperatures.

VDI Plastics in Automotive Engineering 2016 conference will take place from March 9-10 in Mannheim, Germany.
