Polesie, located in the small town of Kobrin, is a toy manufacturer famous for its cheese, and now also for its toys. Polesie, Belarus has joined the EBRD’s Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change (FINTECC) programme, supported by GEF to produce “greener” toys
According to Natalia Tarasjuk, working for Polesie’s commercial relations department, Polesie was founded in 1998 by a small team of enthusiasts, who decided to make their first toy. The toy making business started with a multi-coloured pyramid for toddlers made on a mechanical moulding machine. The company has grown in size employing more than 3,000 people in a period of two decades from its start. The company employs 20 percent of the city’s inhabitants. Polesie is Belarus’s largest manufacturer of high quality children’s plastic toys and games.
Ms Tarasjuk, said. “From one machine to 130; from a tiny room to a 60,000 square meter facility; from three employees to 3,000… The company has become the living heart of the city!” . The factory manages the complete production process starting from each concept’s inception to the transport of the finished toys.
The graphic designers and engineers conceptualize the toy design and production process and work hand in hand to create the models, which are then inserted in the injection moulding machines located in the production plant.
The company has 100 injection moulding machines. The finished pieces toys are meticulously assembled and tested before delivering to markets spread over the world. The toys are exported to more than 60 countries, including Russia, Italy, Australia, and Japan.
