Currently, there is a huge amount of investment in Leuna in the East of Germany. The company Xentrys Leuna GmbH, part of the Belgian DOMO-Group, is expanding its capacities for polymerisation of polyamide-6. Once again underwater-pelletizers of BKG Bruckmann & Kreyenborg Granuliertechnik GmbH are used in this application, enabling many technological innovations in the continuous process of polymerisation.
It was relatively easy for the engineers from Leuna to decide on the machines from Muenster as they had proven themselves in the process of polymerisation for 15 years.
Despite the identical process technology during the polymerisation, there can be different behaviour of polyamide in the pelletizing process. It is not enough to carry out a pilot plant trial as the residual monomer content and various substance properties of the polymer bulk can only be simulated limitedly. Not only the selection of materials for the die plate and the blades but also the procedural arrangement and construction of the components play an essential role. The state of the art design of the pelletizers has been demonstrated frequently by providing solutions to difficult pelletizing applications.
The project engineers from Leuna could rely on an experienced partner. The office KVI Weber from Bitterfeld did not only help with the selection and arrangement of the pelletizers. Due to space requirements and technological innovations, the functional interaction of the melt valves beneath the reactors with the gear pumps, the melt filters and further auxiliary equipment was also a tough challenge. These difficulties were quickly and easily resolved by the experienced process technicians from Bitterfeld.
About Xentrys:
Since 1994 the company Xentrys in Leuna is the leading East German producer of polyamide-6. It is part of the Belgian DOMOChemicals nv.
About BKG:
BKG, which is located in Muenster, is the leading producer of underwater-pelletizing-systems. To date, more than 25 % of the producers of polyamide-6 worldwide have switched to underwater-pelletizers manufactured by BKG.
About KVI Weber:
The Bitterfeld based technical consultants, KVI Weber, are the leading representatives in North Germany for polymer processing machinery for the polymerization, extrusion and compounding industries. The staff has gained many years of experience while working together with well-known polymer producers. Today this extensive experience is applied by providing support and advice
for customer’s projects.
