Dutch plastics recycler opens France’s largest rPET plant

Aloxe invested €25 million to move its recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production facilities to Messein, France, and increase its capacity to 50,000 tonnes a year.

Aloxe, a recycled PET specialist founded in the Netherlands in 2020, has inaugurated a rPET plastic manufacturing plant in Messein, Meurthe-et-Moselle, France.

The Dutch mechanical recycler has been operating a rPET facility with a 12,500 tonnes/year capacity in Vézelise, 15 kilometres away from Messein, since 2021. It will move those production lines to the new Messein site in December, thereby expanding its capacity to 50,000 tonnes/year. Built on old brownfield land, the Messein site is France’s largest rPET plant, according to Aloxe. It already has two Erema Vacunite machines in operation.

The company also operates two rPET manufacturing facilities in Poland (Gdynia and Wąbrzeźno) and another in Italy ((Presenzano). By 2024, it expects to have a manufacturing capacity of 120,000 tonnes across the three European locations.

Aloxe produces food-grade rPET pellets for beverage bottles, trays, and food containers, available in light blue, clear, and green. It also produces pellets for filament and fibres for the synthetic textiles industry, available in black and light colours.

The company currently employs 180 people and has a turnover of €35 million. It is supported by Ara Partners, a private equity firm specialising in industrial decarbonisation investments.
