Plastindia 2018 show organisers reported a record-breaking number of 245,619 visitors at the recent exhibition, held in Ahmedabad between 7 and 12 February 2018. Plastindia is the largest plastics and rubber fair in India and one of the largest plastics show worldwide. The event takes place every three years.

The BPF-led British Pavilion was located in a prominent location in hall 11, which was one of the international halls attracting a steady flow of local visitors looking for the latest solutions in processing and machinery, as well as services.

UK exhibitors and trade mission participants featured in the British Group Guide to Plastindia 2018. 1,000 copies of the booklet were printed and handed out from the BPF/ Department for International Trade (DIT) stand at the show. Department for International Trade (DIT)
A number of British exhibitors were supported with a DIT Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) grant of £2,500, which helped offset the some of the cost of exhibiting.
Aprart from the TAP grants, DIT helped the British Pavilion exhibitors by having a joint stand with the BPF, which worked as a networking area for the exhibitors and trade mission delegates. The BPF/DIT stand offered refreshments for the delegates, use of complimentary WIIFI and enabled them to schedule meetings at a designated space.

British exhibitors and mission delegates had the pleasure of meeting the Deputy High Commissioner for Gujarat, Geoff Wain. Geoff joined Plastindia show organisers in the official Opening Ceremony as a VIP guest on the first day of the show. Mr.Wain visited the stands of the British exhibitors to learn their export stories and brief them in the services and support they can get from the DIT India team.

DIT India and the Deputy High Commissioner hosted an evening welcome reception for the British delegates on the first night of the show, with nearly fourty guests networkig over dinner and drinks. Gujarat, where the show is held, is a ‘dry’ state, meaning drinking alcolohol is prohibited without a special licence, so having a drink in the evening at the reception was an extra bonus for the British guests! DIT kindly arranged transport for the guests and everyone had a really good time.
As part of the mission programme, the delegates had a number of meetings prearranged, where they used the BPF/DIT stand to hold the meetings. They also organised their own meetings to maximise the success of their market visit.
The DIT/ BPF stand at Plastindia not only provided a base for the delagates but also showcased some of the best products and designs of British plastics industry. Samples of Horners Award and PIA winners and runners-up were on display such as: TickleFLEX (insulin injection aid for diabetics), Oxtex (intelligent tissue expansion), pTrumpet (the world’s first all-plastic trumpet), Eyejusters (adjustable eye glasses), Trunki Jurni (suitcase for young travellers), braille printing onto plastic packaging, Magicup (with patented anti-spill technology), digitally printed sports bottles and more.

The next edition of Plastindia will be held in 2021 in New Delhi with no doubt again a strong British Pavilion of exhibitors led by the British Plastics Federation and supported by the DIT.
