Tekni-Plex has acquired both packaging manufacturer Commodore Plastics and Commodore Technology, which will now operate under Tekni-Plex’s subsidiary Dolco.
Commodore Plastics is known for its range of traditional and custom polystyrene foam trays, padded food trays, as well as supermarket and industrial trays.
Meanwhile Commodore Technology manufactures polystyrene foam extrusion systems, dies, thermoformers, trim systems and other moulds and equipment to support its sister company’s production requirements. Both businesses are based in Bloomfield, New York.
Tekni-Plex described Dolco as “the largest producer of foam egg carton trays in the US”. It also produces polystyrene trays for food processing, making the acquisition complementary to Dolco’s existing portfolio.
Paul J. Young, CEO of Tekni-Plex, said: “Tekni-Plex already has significant tray manufacturing capability via its Dolco business unit. The acquisition will allow us to benefit from Commodore’s extruder and thermoforming equipment technology, as well as increase our manufacturing footprint. That puts us in a position to provide even more solutions to our customers.”
The Commodore purchase is the eighth acquisition Tekni-Plex has made in the past four years. Last year it bought Florida-based BrunaSeals, which makes induction seals and foam closure liners for beverage products, among other applications.
