Access New Markets For Polyolefins With ISBM Technology With Total And Nissei ASB

Japanese machinery maker Nissei ASB and French material supplier Total have teamed up to offer a new solution that can process polypropylene (PP) in a polyethylene terephthalate (PET)-designed injection stretch blow molding (ISBM) machine.

“ISBM technology is amazing,” explained Gabriela Quevedo Silvetti, Market Development Engineer for Rigid Packaging Applications at Total. “It enables not only multiple product size and shape manufacturing but also the smooth switch from one material to another, in this case from PET to PP, giving a lot of flexibility and opportunities for diverse applications.”

The solution was first demonstrated at Plast Eurasia 2015, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey from December 3-6. A Nissei ASB-12M one stage ISBM machine processed Total Lumicene PP that is specifically designed for this system.

“Processing Total Lumicene Polypropylene resin requires only a few ISBM machine parameter adaptations. This provides us opportunities to broaden market applications where PET could normally be technically limiting,” commented Karel Keersmaekers-Michiels, Managing Director of Nissei ASB GmbH, the group’s German subsidiary.
