Figures from China’s National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed that measured by weight, first half imports of resin fell by 6.3%, compared to the same period last year, to 12.3 million tonnes.
The country imported CNY126.9bn (£14.6bn)-worth of plastic resins in the first six months of 2016, down 10.2% on the same period last year, according to new data.
During the same time period, China’s domestic resin output increased by 7.7% to 39.8 million tonnes.
China also saw its export of processed plastic products rise 5.7% by weight to 4.97 million tonnes, or 4.5% by sales, during the first half.
Overall, the country’s plastic processing industry grew its output by 5.8% to 36.9 million tonnes in the first six months of 2016, the NBS said.
