In January 2012 the International Electronics Recycling Congress IERC was held already for the eleventh time in Salzburg. About 500 experts and decision makers from all over the world had travelled to Austria to discuss current issues of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling. Successful, value-creating e-scrap recycling requires a profound knowledge of technologies, raw materials, raw material prices, statutory requirements, etc..

For a first-hand experience of e-scrap recycling processes the IERC every year arranges plant tours to recycling companies in Austria and Germany. This year, the destination of one of these tours was in Schönberg, Bavaria, where IERC participants visited S+S Separation and Sorting Technology GmbH. S+S is a manufacturer of high-quality sorting technology systems that also are used for WEEE recycling. For S+S this plant tour was an opportunity to present the com-pany to about 40 visitors.

Franz Schaab: “It was a great pleasure for us to welcome 40 congress participants here at S+S. Our guests were especially interested in our VARISORT sorting systems, which are ideal for e-scrap sorting applications because due to the possibility of combining various sensor types these systems provide outstanding flexibility. We also wish to thank the ICM for the excellent organisation of this tour and for the opportunity to present our company.”
