At the Interpack 2011, taking place from May 12-18 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Starlinger is going to put the main focus on shopping bags made of woven polypropylene.

According to Starlinger, CB*STAR, the world’s first fully automatically produced woven PP carrier bag, is designed to eliminate conventional use-and-toss bags, thus helping to save money and natural resources. Made of a composite of polypropylene fabric and reverse printed BOPP film, CB*STAR bags achieve a high degree of strength and the desired stiffness, while the bag weight is minimized. Thus, despite being lightweight, CB*STAR bags are virtually indestructible. The reverse printed BOPP film protects the attractive printed motif from abrasion and gives the shopping bag a long useful life as a colorful advertising medium. Seen from the ecological point of view, the carbon footprint of a CB*STAR shopping bag is significantly smaller than that of a paper carrier bag. And changing over to reusable plastic shopping bags helps to reduce both raw material consumption and the accumulation of plastic waste.

On the Starlinger stand, the bag conversion line cb*starKON 100 will be in operation, producing “hot” CB*STAR carrier bags with side gussets and a block bottom. With its high degree of automation and versatility, it allows manufacturers to produce a variety of style choices and meet the demand for short delivery times while keeping the costs per bag down, according to the manufacturer.

In addition, Starlinger’s Recycling Division is going to present innovative machine solutions for efficient recycling of plastic materials made of PE, PP, PA, PS, PET, and many others. The company says its recycling technology has a wide spectrum of solutions to choose from for providing an optimum configuration for each application, whether it be packaging films, nonwovens, sheets, tapes, PET preforms or bottles, in-house, industrial or post-consumer waste.
