Jenoptik has introduced the new VOTAN W laser welding solution that can achieve strong welding seams without any marks at the A-surface in short cycle times.
The core element of the laser welding machine is a laser line consisting of eight independently on/off switchable diode lasers. With the arrangement of multiple laser lines, components with an area up to 1,500 x 600mm are weldable in one step. For welding of smaller parts, the company offers the VOTAN W Compact. The modular design enables high flexibility with minimum efforts.
As said, the direct-diode-technology guarantees efficient and low-maintenance operations with good results.
Traditional solutions are inferior to laser welding of plastics, according to Jenoptik’s Product Manager Andreas Büchel. For example, vibration welding causes high mechanical stress to the material, so its stability and surface quality might be affected. Additionally the relative undirected thermal input causes a high expenditure of energy, interferes with the reproducibility of the connection and may lead to component deformation.
