Amcor Flexibles, a division of Amcor, has launched a new recycling packaging solution, Packpyrus. The thermoformable cellulose-based packaging is particularly suited for fresh market.

Three versions of Packpyrus are available: Packpyrus Flexible for vacuum pack base webs, as well as Packpyrus Semi-Rigid and Packpyrus Rigid for modified atmosphere base webs. They are optimized for pre-sliced products like meat or cheese because of its oxygen barrier.

According to Amcor, the Packpyrus Flexible and Packpyrus Rigid solutions offer significant life cycle performance over traditional packaging. Their lightweight, use of renewable fibers and optimized manufacturing processes reduces cradle-to-gate carbon footprint by about 70% and 60%, respectively.

Furthermore, the French Committee for the Evaluation of Recyclability of Paper and Cardboard Packaging (CEREC) recently published on its website a favorable technical assessment for two of the Amcor Packpyrus formats. As such, packaging made from these Amcor Packpyrus materials is allowed to feature the “Info Tri Point Vert” (Waste sorting Green Dot) pictogram, which was created by Eco Emballages to help encourage consumers to correctly sort their household waste for recycling.

Manufactured in Amcor’s ISO 14001 certified plant, Amcor Packpyrus provides a “Kraft paper” natural look and feel that helps to enhance product differentiation on shelf, the company notes.

Amcor adds that it is a member of Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX) and AIM-PROGRESS (Programme for Responsible Sourcing).
