LINDEN, Tenn. – Michigan-based automotive supplier NYX, Inc. will invest $23 million in Perry County, creating 400 jobs over the next
five years.
Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam and Bill Hagerty, commissioner of the Tennessee Economic and Community Development, joined Perry County leaders for the official announcement Tuesday morning.
NYX, Inc.’s new $23 million manufacturing facility will produce injection molded plastics for a wide variety of automotive manufacturers beginning in early 2012.
The company, which also owns Bates, LLC, an existing automotive manufacturing facility in Lobelville, signed a 10-year lease for the 175,000 square-foot Fisher building in Linden.
“Companies recognize and appreciate Tennessee’s attractive business climate, and this additional investment by NYX is a vote of confidence in our state,” Haslam said in a release sent to Nashville’s News 2. “We appreciate NYX’s decision to locate a facility in Linden, and we will continue focusing on our regional economic development strategy to attract quality jobs to rural communities.”
Perry County Mayor John Carroll said the jobs are good news for the county and “the whole region.”
“We have a lot of people that has been displaced over the last few years and this is an opportunity for people to go to work and come back home to work,” Carroll said.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Perry County’s July unemployment rate was 14.7%. It was as high as 29.7% in January of 2009.
“It’s a good day for Perry County, a very good day,” Mayor Carroll told Nashville’s News 2, adding, “We are excited about NYX’s expansion in Perry County. The new facility will provide long awaited employment opportunities for our area and we look forward to continuing to work with NYX.”
The Bates operation in Lobelville will remain intact, with no change to employment numbers.
NYX will begin accepting applications and resumes for the new facility in November.
