One of the world’s leading injection molding machine suppliers by volume is taking a trip up the technology tree with its licensing of know-how and technology for large two-platen hydraulic injection molding machines from Japan’s Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Plastic Technology (Tokyo).
Through this deal, Chen Hsong (Hong Kong) will apply Mitsubishi’s expertise in the manufacture of two-platen machines that will be sold on an exclusive basis in China, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan and non-exclusively in other regions.
Furthermore, an OEM manufacturing and supply agreement has been inked that appoints Chen Hsong as Mitsubishi’s exclusive manufacturer in Greater China for large-size two-platen hydraulic injection molding machines based on Mitsubishi specifications. A newly designed large two-platen Mitsubishi hydraulic injection molding machine will be manufactured in a Chen Hsong production facilities in the People’s Republic of China, focusing mainly on energy efficiency and a better price-performance ratio.
Japanese injection machine OEMs have been struggling for some time with a high Yen that makes their machines expensive for foreign processors. Mitsubishi appears to have concluded that it needs more cost-effective offerings in its product portfolio.
This is the second tie-up that Mitsubishi has formed with a foreign machine builder. Last year, it became the sales and service agent in Japan for the marketing of Engel’s multi-component machines with clamping forces of 1000 tonnes and below.-mpweditorial@ubm.com
