DURHAM : Lexington-based injection molder Tarheel Plastics has announced plans to set up a second plant in North Carolina. According to a news release issued by the Davie County Economic Development Commission, Tarheel is estimating an investment in the range $ 2.5 million to $ 3.5 million to set up the new facility. The company intends to start the plant in Mocksville, N.C.

Currently, Tahreel Plastics operate at the 110,000 square-foot facility in Lexington. As per the company, the current facility is operating to its full capacity and there seems no scope for an expansion. The current facility employs 62 full –time staff and 8 part-timers. The company is planning to expand its activities by setting up a new unit at the Mocksville premises, which will create 48 additional jobs.

The company will occupy a building that has been vacant for several years. The North Carolina Rural Center has already sanctioned Building Reuse Grant of $480,000. The grant represents $10,000 for each job created. Necessary structural modifications shall be done to transform the existing warehouse into a production facility. The renovation works are expected to commence by April this year.

Tahreel Plastics Lexington facility built in 1980’s offers operation capabilities including gas assist, heat transfer, pad printing, sonic welding, as well as assembly. The machinery includes 32 injection molding machines which range from 40-1450 ton.
