Taiwan-based industrial computing manufacturer AAEON has released two new embedded servers that can be used to power intelligent automation solutions in factories and buildings.
The new products — the AIS-E1 and AIS-E2 — both feature upgradeable, socket-type multicore Intel iServices processors under 45W and can be used for a variety of other applications as well, including IP surveillance and advanced digital signs and kiosks.
“AAEON embedded servers are built to be cost-effective, providing greater performance and richer features in a compact desktop enclosure for today’s automation applications,” says Randy Chang, product manager of AAEON’s Industrial Systems Division, in a press release. He says the company designed the new servers for fast installation of CPU cooler brackets, Cfast memory, and miniPCIe modules, and they can be customized to suit a company’s needs.
The two servers are built on ostensibly the same infrastructure, but the AIS-E2 is a more compact upgrade to the EI, according to AAEON. The AIS-E1 measures 315mm x 70mm x 300mm, while the E2 measures 195mm x 70mm x 220mm.
The AIS-EI supports 2nd generation Intel Core i7/i5/Celeron processors and includes a built-in Intel QM67 chipset. It also supports two 204-pin dual-channel DDR3 1066/1333/1600 MHz SODIMM, up to 16GB, and has six USB2.0 ports, dual displays via VGA, LVDS and DVI-D, as well as HDMI supporting full HD dual display, according to AAEON.
Other features of the AIS-EI include the following: one COM port (expandable to six), three audio ports, two KB/MS ports, four 2.5-inch HDD/SSD, and the ability to add optional wireless features via a PCIe 3.0 mini-Card slot that supports 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.
In addition to its size, the AIS-E2 also is different from the E1 in that it supports 3rd Generation Intel Core i7/ i5/ Celeron processors. Much of the connectivity of the more compact server is the same, except the E2 features four faster 5Gb/sec USB3.0 ports, one additional display port, and supports a maximum of two 2.5-inch HDD/SSD, due to its smaller enclosure. It’s also easier to install the E2 in systems with limited space because of its more compact size, the company said.
Customers also can use the servers with add-ons to extend their capability. For remote device management, for instance, the company offers a free program called Hi-Manager that can be installed on the servers to allow BIOS-level remote management from a remote console. Hi-Safe is another free AAEON program that can be installed on the servers to develop UI software to monitor vital system information.
