An ultra-compact 10 tonne injection moulding machine has been introduced by Boy, becoming the smallest model in the range in more ways than one. The XS has a footprint of 0·81 m² and is also built in a vertical insert-moulding format (XS V) standing on 0·63 m².
The XS is being pitched at micro moulding with single cavity production up to a shot volume of 8 cm³. It has a 12 mm plasticising unit and for its intended low shot volumes is fitted with a newly designed runnerless nozzle.
Two diagonally arranged tie bars are used and the machine continues Boy’s overhung two-platen clamping unit design. Access to the plasticising unit, mould area and ejector is said to be very good.
Control is through Boy’s Procan Alpha system.
